The Berkshires Trip: Day 2

I forgot that I was promised to post a Day 2 of the Berkshires Trip. Yesterday I was reminded of that when we were hanging out with Jeremy and Vanessa. On Day 2 of THE TRIP, Cole woke up at his usual 6:30. Sometimes we can convince him to go back to sleep for another half hour or hour. But Cole would not be convinced. It was probably the new room we were in and the fact that light was pouring through the white curtains. So anyway, I took Cole into the "living room" of the suite and closed the doors so Keith could sleep a little longer. He was going to be driving all the way back home so I figured he deserved some extra rest. In the living room we played for a solid 40 minutes and had an endless amount of fun. Afterwards, we woke Keith up and went next door to the main house for breakfast. That was a ton of fun. Cole loved looking around at all of the other guests and of course, he made friends with several people. He encountered his first set of stairs (we have a one floor house here in the Ferris household) and chased after the Porches cat, who retreated safely into her hideaway room (see below). It was funny to watch him crawl around the doorway where she retreated and not see her. He kept crawling until he stopped at a door and then tried to open the door by the bottom, thinking the cat was on the other side.
After breakfast, we went for a hike up the hill behind Porches and then came back for a nap. We got some pictures of Cole looking out a window later on that morning. We have no low windows in our house that he can actually look out of, so this was another first for him as well. After leaving North Adams, we took the scenic route home, visiting the college town, Williamstown, where Williams College is located. It was a town that basically built for the college and it was a beautiful campus and little downtown. Unfortunately we took no pictures even though we took a walk around the town. The weird thing was, there were no bars whatsoever. Keith felt bad for the poor college students.  Next, we went to Lenox, where, after not being able to find a single restaurant that was either a) open b) served lunch c) didn't have a long wait, we flew out of there and said, "Lenox, You failed us. We will never come back here." We did manage to find a cute boutique for babies with ultra expensive clothes. However, we hit the sale rack and got a $40 pair of soft cotton pants for $15. Then we went to Stockbridge, had a decent lunch, and learned the unfortunate lesson that baby changing stations are a privilege, not a right. (This is one of those lessons we keep learning, over and over again. I can't tell you on how many bathroom floors we've changed Cole's diaper.) Finally, we drove into Great Barrington and realized this was where it was at. There were a ton of cute shops and restaurants that were open and get this: a coffee shop/oyster bar that also sold Martinis. Very weird.
After much ado, here are the photos...

The fact that we are all wearing some sort of black and white plaid is a total coincidence.

A little tired, are we?

  1. Glad you had a great time. Makes me want to go, but "vacation"?? What's that?

PS: I don't even bother with restroom changing stations anymore. We keep a thick blanket in the back of the car and we change Zach there when we go out.

  2. I guess we could do that too, especially with the CRV, but I'm always afraid he'll get a chill. I'm such a wuss!!

  3. we move the operation to the backseat in the cold. It all started when Zach was a newborn and we detected this horrible odor while in some random store. The first time his clothes came home in a plastic bag. The rest is history.
